Abstract A low sidelobe 77 GHz centre‐fed microstrip patch array antenna is proposed for automotive radar application. The comprises eight linear arrays, each of which by a coplanar waveguide with ground transmission line at the back patches. Each contains 10 units, are connected through T‐type power divider network to achieve −30 dB Taylor weighted distribution. simulation results show that designed phased has good one‐dimensional scanning ability ±45° active voltage standing wave ratio less than 2 75–79 GHz, along −20 symmetrical radiation patterns in H plane. An sample fed WR12 fabricated and measured verify its performance. VSWR 73.6–85 GHz. This design provides new idea millimetre design.
